Description
Hoping to augment her family’s precarious finances following a bad investment by her father, young Agnes Grey hires herself out to service as a governess. Her idealistic belief that she can win the love and trust of her pupils through personal kindness is quickly dashed: the parents who employ her are disdainful of her efforts, and their children are completely indifferent to the deference her position warrants.
