Known as Father of the Nation, Nelson Mandela fought against apartheid in South Africa. As a lawyer, Mandela worked tirelessly to free his country from an oppressive government. His brave actions resulted in his conviction and he spent twenty-seven years in jail. Even still, he did not lose his fighting spirit. Freed in 1990, he resumed his place as the leader of black South Africa in the first all-race election. After his presidency came to an end, Mandela continued to fight for those who needed help. Nelson Mandela proved that with enough courage, perseverance, and strength of conviction anything can be done. Nelson Mandela will forever be remembered as a hero.
