Description
Bruce Johnson’s humorous and intricate line drawing, including the popular “Tailgating”, “Gentle Giants”, and “Build Your Own Rainbow” are familiar to many Pennsylvanians, but his reputation as a fine artist extends well beyond the state. Now for the first time more than a hundred of Johnson’s best-known images are gathered in one place and reproduced in handsome large-format detail.
Sometimes satirical, sometimes wistful, always amusing and involving, Johnson’s drawings, which he calls his “Statements” have been reproduced as prized limited-edition prints as well as on posters, T-shirts, puzzles, and mugs.
Many of the pieces have outdoor themes-“Sunday Sailors”, “Life’s a Beach”, “Opening Day”- illustrating how many people enjoy, make use of, and sometimes abuse the natural world. Others celebrate the imagination: “Floating Fantasies,” “Go Fly a Kite,” “The Great Humpty Dumpty Disaster.” Still others are based on puns: “Brush Fire,” “Sub Contractors,” “Training Bra.” Johnson has also created memorable images for corporate clients, including Hersheypark, Reese’s, and the Pennsylvania Farm Show.
